Social Responsibility

Pike River is part of the West Coast community with a particularly strong relationship with the town of Greymouth where most of its staff and their families live.

The West Coast economy is benefiting significantly from the new mine.

Pike River employs 150 full time staff at the mine, making it the fifth largest employer on the West Coast, with downstream employment for a further 450 in servicing and supply industries.

More than $20 million will be spent annually on local workforce employment, trucking, power supply, and support services.

Pike River engages closely with its various communities through cultural, recreational, and sporting ties and through a variety of local sponsorships.

New Zealand itself will benefit from taxes and royalties of many millions a dollars a year, with the total value depending on export coal prices and exchange rates.
